Learn how to cook “Tave Kosi”, one of the most Delicious and Unique Albanian Dishes. Visit our Cooking Class in Tirana and learn more about Albanian Food. The interesting fact behind it is that it was called also as the “Independence Dish” as was one of the most favorites ones of Ismail Qemali, the first Albanian Prime Minister after the Independence at 1912. For a better taste it is preferable to be eaten warm in its own bowl. You can be easily cooked all year because of the easily to find ingredients.
It is a very easy to prepare dish and can be cooked either with lamb or veal meat, although the traditional recipes is based on lamb.

Simple Steeps for preparing it :

1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees C.
2. Boil the lamb or beef meat for about 10-15 minutes
3. After boiling dice the meat in small cubes (2-3cm).Remove the extra fat part.
4. Mix in a bowl the diced meat with butter. Put it on the pre-heated oven for 7-10 minutes, until has turns crispy and light brown.
5. Put a pot in the stove, stir together butter and flour, after 2 minutes add the broth. After the broth will look like mashed potatoes but that’s how it needs to look
6.Next step, will mix all the yogurt and also the eggs
7.Last step will be the spicies
8. Spread all the mass of the Pot to the bowl where the meat was and put it in the oven for 20 minutes in 250 degrees C.
9. Put it out of the oven and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.

For one bowl of “Tave Kosi” is needed : 

  • 200 g of Lamb or Veal 
  • Whole egg / for 3 bowls 
  • 1 tbs of Butter 
  • Around 1 tbs of wheat flour  

Ingredients
Butter (as much as you would like, never enough in our cuisine)
1 spoon of flour per person
1 scoop of broth per person
250-260 gr of yogurt per person
eggs (half of the number of the people that your cooking for )
spices (amount depends on your preference)
salt
black pepper
sweet paprika
garlic powder (do not use fresh garlic)
vegeta (the vegetable broth ,bullion )

It’s also a versatile recipe—you can swap the lamb for chicken or even add rice to turn it into a heartier meal.
